Most of the people who reach out to me for coaching have on the outside, seemingly very successful careers. But on the inside, they feel stuck, like they are spinning their wheels without any forward motion.
If you are like one of my clients, you are a high-performing woman with 10+ years of experience behind you.
You have an advanced graduate degree, a Ph.D., MBA, or maybe both.
You are at mid-senior level roles, and aspire to be CXO within 10 years.
You grew fast in your career because you leaned into your winning strengths - drive, hard work, result-focused. Your credibility was built on your ability to “get shit done”!
But what got you here is not going to take you there.
As you get ready to level up and step into Director, VP, and CXO roles, your personal brand needs to level up with you.
It needs to shift from being the “implementor” to being the “leader.”
If you want to move up into executive leadership roles, you must start leaning into your deeper purpose and values and how those serve to motivate people around you, make business-critical decisions, and advance the north star of your organization.
As you level up, Pinkcareers POWER framework (c) serves as an powerful tool to gain crystal clarity on your personal motivators, unique value proposition, and exceptional results.
The POWER framework (c) for Personal Branding is introduced below.
For each step of this 5-step framework, ask yourself the following questions:
Your principles are your personal values that guide your decision-making, especially when the choices are not straightforward and the outcome is unclear.
Ask yourself:
What makes me happy, satisfied or proud?
What am I doing or who am I with when I feel happy, satisfied, and proud?
Is my day-to-day in alignment with my personal values.
To get you started, here is a short, non-exhaustive list of personal values to add to your vocabulary: Adventure, Ambition, Faith, Impact, Recognition, Teamwork, Service, Wealth, Well-being
Your objective is your purpose as a leader.
Ask yourself:
Why do I get up in the morning and do what I do every day?
What change do I want to see in the world?
What do I want my legacy to be?
Your ''winning skills' is one area of your personal brand that you may need to intentionally drive the biggest perspective shift as you move towards senior leadership roles.
Ask yourself:
What are you currently known for at work?
What skills do you look up to in role models and sponsors?
Is there a gap and how can you bridge it?
There is a scientifically proven concept called Enclothed Cognition. The way we dress affects the way we think, the way we feel, the way we act, and the way others react to us.
If you want to get to the next level, you need to step into the next level identity first.
Ask yourself:
How do my leaders and role models dress up, speak and act in decision-making rooms?
What keeps the executive leaders of my organization up at night?
Am I speaking in a way that puts in in-charge or in submission?
Business results are the foundation of your self-confidence and your compounding credibility in the workplace.
Ask yourself:
How does my work translate to a quantitative impact on a critical business goal?
Am I in the cost-center or profit-center in the company?
Who knows about the business results I have delivered?
The speed at which you evolve your personal brand will determine the trajectory of your growth to CXO roles. And that’s where strategic partnership with a trusted coach can be the best thing you can do for your career!
