My client optimized his LinkedIn last week.
This week he has interviews from Walmart and Chase for Data Science Manager roles.
Here are the exact steps he followed that you can steal too:
LinkedIn is a Search Engine. That means, if you want to be found for the right job titles, you simply need to have the right keywords with the right frequency.
Optimize keywords in the following order:
- Headline
- About section
- Past job titles
- Job descriptions
The easiest way to optimize your LinkedIn is to first keyword-optimize your Resume and then simply mirror it on your LinkedIn.
Optimizing your LinkedIn profile for keywords ensures that you come up in search results for your target roles. But once the recruiter has found your profile, you still need to give them a reason to read through it and give you a call.
Use the following structure for the About section to shamelessly promote your biggest accomplishments and position yourself for the best candidate for the role:
- Professional summary (copy from Resume)
- List of 3 accomplishments with quantitative results
- List of 20 target keywords and technical skills
On a bi-weekly basis, track the following LinkedIn metrics:
- Number of search appearances / week
- Job titles you were found for
- Top job titles of your searchers
Use the data to identify what keywords to optimize further to ensure you are found by recruiters for the right job titles.

If your LinkedIn is not doing 33% of the heavy lifting in landing you interviews, you are leaving $$$ on the table, literally.
Which change are you going to make today?
