I see so often women getting stuck in "support" or "enablement" roles.
These are roles where you think you have the ownership and authority…
but not really.
These are roles in the cost center, you know, the part of the business that does not make the company money.
These roles are the first ones to hit the chopping block when the stock market dips or it’s time to get the earnings release out.
You would often find more women in these roles.
Sometimes because our manager assumes on our behalf that we cannot take high-stake roles when we have a young family to look after…
and sometimes we lean ourselves out.
But to be brutally honest, the longer you stay in the cost center, the further away you get from reaching your dreams to be in the c-suite.
This looks like roles in Sales, Growth, Customer-facing Engineering, Product, and Operations.
Yes, they are hard to get.
Yes, they are uncomfortable.
Yes, there will be no one who looks like you.
