Many times in my career, I had to take up roles with no control
over who my team or teammates will be. The one question I ask myself in any position
is how do I harness the skills of my team to always win.
Knowing my team
requires dedicated time and effort to learn about each person's strengths and leveraging
opportunities to work together to achieve the required results.
Delegation is how I challenge and develop my team. In
particular, here are five reasons why I delegate.

Delegating
allows you to learn about the strengths and development areas of your team. It
then serves as a guide for you to know what sort of training is needed for your
team to get to the next level (which should be your primary role). It also
serves as an opportunity to give feedback and provide action plans for
development.
Delegating helps you establish the baseline performance in the team and recognize who is ready for
more challenges.
Delegating creates an impression on your team.
They know you trust them enough to have them do some of your responsibilities,
which acts as a huge motivator. My assistants at work are always excited to
pick up more roles because it gives both of us a platform to provide feedback
and learn.
This is one of the most rewarding benefits of delegating. Delegating helps you to focus on work that is important, not only urgent. By leveraging the power of
delegation, you are able to pick up more projects and challenges that help you develop the skills necessary to make the next career move.
This
is the most important reason why I delegate. I have constantly been able to win
due to delegation. As a leader, my goal is not only to produce results but to
produce sustainable results. My team should be able to perform at the highest
level whether I am around or not. This has always been my primary goal and I
can proudly say that my assistants at work run operations smoothly in my absence.
I see this as a huge win, and I am really proud of it.
So my advice to my fellow professionals: take the
time to know your team, train and delegate, give feedback and develop your
team. A leader that delegates always wins.
