I blurted even before the officer at the airport security opened the bag to check what was the white stuff sloshing inside.
For the next 60 seconds, I held my breath nervously as he decided on the fate of my 40 oz of liquid gold… whether it would make it to my baby or go down the drain.
When I got an offsite interview invite in Minnesota during my MBA hiring season, I only had two choices…
Let the interview pass to prioritize breastfeeding my son.
Or take the risk to fly out for 2 days and pray I’ll get no trouble passing through security with 8 bottles of breastmilk.
I had read enough about the scary stories of how many moms had to dump their hardwork because security would dunk the testing strip inside or not allow ice packs.
I decided to take the chance.
Because I loved my career as much as I loved my baby.
As security gave a green light, I let out a sign of relief.
Over the next few months, I made several other overnight trips or job search and for work… pumping everywhere from hotel rooms to cars to airport bathrooms.
So my baby can continue to be fed.
I know I am not the only one who did this.
Every year, thousands of breastfeeding moms also travel for work, because they know to prioritize their career while also prioritizing their family.
I share my story to remind you that we can do hard.
Whether it be breastfeeding on the go, putting in our next application after 100 rejections, or building our business.
